The Golden State Valkyries secured their sixth win of the season in a dramatic 79-76 victory over the Chicago Sky on June 27 at Chase Center. With the game hanging in the balance during the final minutes, the Valkyries displayed poise on both ends to escape with the win, improving to 6-13 on the year.

Kelsey Plum led the way with 21 points and seven assists, providing a steady offensive engine throughout the night. Dearica Hamby contributed a key double-double, finishing with 17 points and 12 rebounds, and hit two clutch free throws in the closing seconds to seal the result.

Chicago made it a game from start to finish, never trailing by more than six. Marina Mabrey tallied 18 points, while rookie Angel Reese posted 14 points and 11 rebounds, continuing her strong debut season and battling fiercely on the glass against Hamby.

The fourth quarter featured four lead changes and two ties, including a game-saving block by Valkyries forward Kalani Brown on a Reese layup attempt with 14 seconds remaining. That stop allowed Golden State to maintain a narrow lead before icing the game at the line.

With the win, the Valkyries snapped a two-game skid and earned some momentum heading into a tough road stretch. Head coach Tanisha Wright praised the team’s “composure under pressure” and highlighted the growth in their late-game execution.

Chicago, meanwhile, drops to 6-11 and will look to regroup before heading to Phoenix. Sky head coach Teresa Weatherspoon acknowledged her team’s effort but noted, “We’ve got to finish plays at the rim when it counts.”
