Kennedy Fuller wasted little time giving Angel City supporters something to celebrate, opening her 2026 account with the club’s first goal of the new campaign in a 4-0 home win over the Chicago Stars at BMO Stadium on March 15. It was the kind of composed finish that reflected both confidence and maturity, and it immediately stamped her authority on Angel City’s season opener.

The breakthrough came in the 33rd minute when Fuller took a pass from Ary Borges, drove into the right side of the penalty area, and sent a low shot under Chicago goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher. In one sharp sequence, Fuller turned attacking intent into a tangible reward, showing the direct running and calm decision-making Angel City will hope to lean on throughout the season.

What made the moment stand out even more was the sense that it had been building. Angel City controlled much of the first half and outshot Chicago 10-2 before the break, with Fuller at the center of the team’s creative rhythm. Her goal did not arrive out of nowhere; it felt like the natural payoff for a side playing with energy, structure, and conviction.

For Fuller, the strike was more than a season-opening statistic. It was an early statement from a 19-year-old midfielder who continues to take on a larger role in one of the league’s most watched teams. Scoring the first goal of the year carries a certain symbolism, and in this case it also reinforced the idea that Fuller is becoming one of the clearest expressions of Angel City’s future.

She was not done after finding the net, either. Fuller also helped create Angel City’s second goal in the 53rd minute, curling in a corner that Evelyn Shores redirected into the top-right corner. By the time she left the match in the 80th minute, Fuller had influenced the contest both as a scorer and a creator, delivering the kind of all-around display that coaches prize in attacking midfielders.

After the match, Fuller pointed to the balance Angel City is trying to strike under head coach Alex Straus, saying the squad now has a structure that still allows players to be creative and fearless. That perspective matched what unfolded on the field, where Angel City looked organized without losing its flair, and where Fuller seemed especially comfortable operating within that framework.

Her opener also fit neatly into the wider story of Angel City’s evening. Borges added a goal of her own, Maiara Niehues capped the scoring, and goalkeeper Angelina Anderson kept a clean sheet as the club launched its fifth NWSL season in emphatic fashion. Yet Fuller’s finish remained the emotional spark, the first clear flash of a new campaign and the moment that put the stadium fully on its feet.

If first goals can sometimes serve as markers for what is to come, Angel City will hope Fuller’s is the beginning of a sustained surge. She opened the scoring, helped shape the rest of the match, and offered a glimpse of how decisive she may become over the months ahead. On opening night in Los Angeles, the season’s first goal belonged to Kennedy Fuller, and it felt like a sign of something bigger.
