Agot Makeer’s shot over Olivia Miles and Kennedy Basham captured the tone of South Carolina’s night in Sacramento: poised, forceful and increasingly impossible to stop. On the Elite Eight stage at Golden 1 Center on Monday, March 30, the freshman guard played with the kind of confidence that has become a trademark of Dawn Staley’s program, helping turn a tense regional final into a decisive 78-52 victory over TCU.

For long stretches, this was not the runaway many might expect from a top seed. TCU arrived with belief, shot-makers and a star floor general in Miles, and the Horned Frogs pushed South Carolina into a real fight. Early in the second quarter, the Gamecocks trailed 22-18, and the matchup briefly carried the feel of a game that would be decided only in the final minutes.

Instead, South Carolina answered with the kind of surge championship teams produce almost on instinct. Joyce Edwards steadied the attack, the defense tightened, and the Gamecocks closed the first half on a commanding run to move in front 35-27. The rhythm shifted there, and even when TCU threatened again, South Carolina never truly looked rattled.

Makeer’s contribution gave that control a sharper edge. Coming off the bench, she brought pace, activity and finish, attacking gaps and turning broken possessions into points. Her basket over Miles and Basham stood out not just because of the difficulty of the play, but because it reflected how assertive she was in one of the biggest games of the season.

Edwards remained the central force, piling up points and rebounds with the kind of calm efficiency that has made her one of the faces of South Carolina’s tournament run. Tessa Johnson added scoring punch, Raven Johnson directed traffic and created chances, and the Gamecocks’ depth gradually became too much for TCU to absorb over four quarters.

The Horned Frogs still had moments that hinted at a possible late twist. Miles, one of the most dynamic guards in the country, kept probing and creating, while TCU battled to stay within reach into the third quarter. But once the fourth began, South Carolina slammed the door. Edwards and Makeer ignited the push, and the Gamecocks exploded through the final period with the authority of a team that knows exactly what this round requires.

By the end, the numbers matched the eye test. South Carolina dominated the glass, generated second chances and overwhelmed TCU with relentless pressure and fresh bodies. What had been an eight-point game entering the fourth quarter became a 26-point statement, the kind of finish that says as much about endurance and composure as it does talent.

The victory sent South Carolina to its sixth straight Final Four, another marker of the remarkable standard Staley has built in Columbia. For TCU, the loss ended a strong season one step short of history, but for the Gamecocks, the night in Sacramento felt like both an ending and a beginning. With Edwards starring and Makeer announcing herself in a major way, South Carolina left the floor looking every bit like a team prepared for one more championship chase.
