Gotham FC delivered a commanding performance on Friday night, ending Kansas City Current’s 11-game unbeaten streak with a hard-fought 2-1 win in front of a raucous home crowd. The victory solidified Gotham’s standing as a serious title contender in the NWSL, while exposing rare vulnerabilities in the league leaders.

Yazmeen Ryan opened the scoring for Gotham in the 18th minute with a powerful strike from outside the box, catching Kansas City keeper AD Franch flat-footed. The goal energized the home side, who continued to press high and disrupt the Current’s rhythm throughout the first half.

Kansas City responded after halftime with a renewed intensity, and Temwa Chawinga found the equalizer in the 57th minute following a swift counterattack. However, Gotham’s defense remained disciplined, and goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger made several key saves to keep the game level.

The decisive moment came in the 76th minute when Ella Stevens connected on a corner kick, heading home the game-winner and sealing Gotham’s biggest victory of the season so far. The win not only ended Kansas City’s perfect run but also reignited the title race as the season nears its midpoint.
